Farm Information
Sigri Plantation, located in the Waghi Valleys in the western highlands province of Papua New Guinea was established in 1950's and rapidly gained the reputation for producing the finest Arabica coffee in the country. At almost 1,550m above sea level, the plantations enjoy a cool climate and bountiful rainfall, the ideal environment for growing arabica coffee. All plantings are exclusively Arabica, concentrating on the Arusha and Typica varieties, which produce a finer coffee than other Arabicas in Papua New Guinea.
All coffees bearing the Sigri name is a washed Arabica and undergoes the wet processing method. Strict quality control measures begin in the field whereby coffee cherries are hand-picked and carefully checked for uniformity. It must be red and fully riped, which means the correct balance of sugar and acid compounds within the cherry. The selected cherries are pulped on the same day of picking and fermentation is followed for a period of three days whereby there is a washing every 24 hours. Unlike other coffees, the Sigri process includes an additional day of total immersion of water. This create a superior tasting and cleaner coffee. Sun drying the coffee further enhances the quality of the coffee and unlike many others, all Sigri coffee is Sun-dried.
Careful conditioning, hulling, grading and hand sorting is strictly abided by the Processing facility. This combined with rigorous quality control and a final hand sorting before packing ensures a top notch Papua New Guinea cup of coffee you will be enjoying. This tedious process attributes to the finest green coffee beans Sigri is renowned for. All grades are continuously sample roasted and liquored on the estate by the experts. This provides a final check on the quality of the green bean product, and is a practice unique to both Papua New Guinea and most others producing countries.
A cup of superbly flavoured Sigri coffee is the culmination of years of experience, time proven methods of growing and processing, and the most stringent attention to maintaining standard and quality control.
